In an exciting JOINT VENTURE with WHITE ROSE YORKSHIRE STEAMPUNKS, this is a splendid opportunity to don your steampunk attire and gather to meet old and new friends at CHATSWORTH HOUSE & GARDENS, Bakewell, Derbyshire DE45 1PP.
There will be a display of 500 year old hunting tapestries at Chatsworth House during our event.
PURCHASE AND PREBOOK your entry and we will see you inside later if you want to meet up. Please see the attached links to Chatsworth House, Gardens and Car Parks.
Chatsworth House has camping facilities
Please note that there are two pay car parks and the one nearest to the House, called the Main Car Park (5 mins walk away) needs to be prebooked. The other car park, called the Overflow Car Park is a 20 min walk away.
A Rare and unique Set of English Biblical Tapestries will also be on display. Woven at the leading English tapestry workshop of Mortlake in London, these tapestries show events from the life of Christ taken from cartoons by the Renaissance master, Raphael. These were popular designs and several sets were commissioned. They have been part of the decoration of the room since the mid-18th century, but have lost their original borders and been cut to fit the available space. Their rich colours have faded over the last 300 years. The present frames around them were introduced by the 6th Duke around 1830.
The day will be as leisurely or as busy as you wish. You can admire the interior splendour of historic Chatsworth House (prebook your timed tour and allow at least one hour for it)) or explore the 105 acre Garden with its wonderful flowers, Victorian Rock Garden, ponds and Trout Stream, water features and giant sculptures. Or do both! There are several places to purchase food and either eat in or take away.
Please also note that prams, pushchairs or rucksack-style baby carriers are not allowed in the House; side and front baby carriers are welcome.
DANTE AND CHRISTINA RUBY WILLOW aim to arrive early to promenade the Gardens. We will then rendezvous to a MEETING PLACE for a picnic from midday to 2pm. The meeting place is at QUEEN MARY’S BOWER, a large, square, stone structure with steps and a filled-in moat, situated in a field leading down to the river, it’s on the left-hand side of the House near to the car parks and you pass it on your way in so keep a look out for it. If you book the main Car Park, you will be right near it. Please feel free to bring your chairs and perhaps a picnic and join us to socialise and have some group photos. There will be plenty of space for you to bring croquet, boules or garden games if you wish.
Please note that the visitor route through the House and Gardens is fully wheelchair accessible.
Please be aware that some areas of the garden, including the glasshouses and maze, are currently closed to ensure safe social distancing and there are one way systems in some areas. There are also tractors and other vehicle movements within the garden at all times. Please take care.
Well-behaved dogs on leads are allowed in the Gardens but not inside Chatsworth House or eateries.
